We went on our annual trip to Orcas Island and stayed in one of the beach front cabins at the West Beach Resort. This is one of my favorite places to visit, we go during the off season so it's very quiet and not a lot of people around. When we came home, Seattle looked like a winter wonderland! Most of these pics were taken using the Instagram app.

January Mini-Series: Piece No.1

New Year, New Project!

Rather than do a daily project like I did with my Monsters last year, I've decided to do a weekly/monthly one this year. I'm calling it the Mini-Series Project and this is what it entails: Each month I am going to create a small series of art. The number of pieces I create per month ranges from 4 to 5. This number is based on how may Fridays occur in the month. Every Friday I will post what I created for that week and when the month is over I'll have a little "art show" of all the pieces that make up the mini-series. By the end of the year I should have 12 mini-series, made up of 52 individual pieces. I'm not limiting the materials I use so expect to see a range of mediums.
Check back this Friday to see the first piece in January's Mini-Series!

Here are the last of my daily Monsters! Thanks to everyone who stuck with me and checked out my Monsters. I had a lot of fun working on this, though it was a little frustrating at times, it was definitely worth doing. You can see all 365 Monsters here!

Whew! I can't believe 2011 has come and gone. Don't worry though I have a couple of projects brewing in my mind already for 2012. One is a weekly project and one is a monthly project. I'll be posting the details on those later.

I just finished these two new cut paper pieces. I plan on taking them down to Flying Squirrel Pizza to hang up and sell. Over the Weekend

Over the weekend we checked out Short Run, the 1st annual small press fest here in Seattle. There was a lot to see, over 50 exhibitors, a bake sale, animation, and a drawing game! All that plus free admission. My eyes got a bit over stimulated from looking at all the awesome zines and original art that exhibitors had brought to sell.

I came home with $20 worth of loot. I'm already looking forward to next year's fest!

Didn't have a chance to post my monsters yesterday due to just coming back from a little trip to Disneyland! Our awesome friends flew us down to help them celebrate their first wedding anniversary. We had an amazing time, I love Disneyland during Halloween time! Happy Anniversary Matt & Amy!

Over the weekend we had a little dinner party for my brother-in-law's birthday. I made some decorations using a pack of metallic scrap booking paper and some yarn (thanks S&B peeps). I also made my first Funfetti Cake, per request of the birthday boy. It was a great night, though I did have a bit of a hangover the next day.

Andrew recently had a Rubber Duck Regatta at work so I customized his into a Drinky Crow Rubber Duck Racer. I added the horseshoe necklace for extra luck.

I'm trying to improve my sewing skills so I made a pillow for my desk chair. It's a little wonky but it gets the job done.

We enjoyed another weekend just hanging around the house. I finally was able to read the awesome mini-comics we received from Nathan Bulmer, his comics always make me giggle. You should check out his blog where he posts his super cool comics daily. I also did a little bit of work on the book I'm illustrating for my friend. Mostly though we worked on sorting our clothes deciding what to keep and what to give away, I always feel good after getting rid of stuff I don't need anymore. The weekend was wrapped up with an amazing meal made by my brother-in-law, I love sitting by candle light and enjoying some tasty food!

Instead of going on a little trip this Labor Day, Andrew and I decided to have a weekend spent inside. This gave us a great opportunity to get some stuff crossed off of our to do list. In between episodes of Cheers and writing Thank-you notes from our wedding I took some pics of our surroundings, inside and outside the house.

Way back at the end of April our friends Matt and Amy came to visit us up here in Seattle.

This is us attending a Princess Party a few years ago, we were PUMPED!

While they were here I took them over to Seward Park for a little picnic and some fun with paper shapes! My camera pooped out on me mid forrest fun and when we returned home I was sad to discover I had no idea where my camera charger was, and since I didn't have a card reader my pics have been trapped on my camera, cue sad Charlie Brown music. Well yesterday to my delight I unearthed my camera charger, yay, so now I can share a couple pics from our adventure!

This is a concert poster I recently created for a friend. I used a combination of cut paper and photoshop to create it. The image of the piano player was inspired by this amazing painting by William Tolliver.
